Top Trends In Kitchen Cabinetry Design

Designer Kitchens Brisbane

Kitchen cabinetry is not just for storage. It is an essential element to your kitchen’s style when doing a kitchen renovation.

While simple clean cabinetry will keep getting popular, some homeowners will prefer unique customised styles that will make a clear statement. Here are the top trends for kitchen cabinet design.

Open Shelving

Open shelves look beautiful in the magazines, but not necessarily a “must-have” for most homeowners. Lets face it, you have to have a matching set of dinnerware or specialty pieces you want on display.  But with good organisation and the right kind of shelves, you can create a really unique cutting edge style for your kitchen.

Multiple Colours in the Kitchen

For cabinetry, homeowners are favouring customised colours that perfectly fit their kitchen spaces. Neutral colours are currently big favourites with tones like grey, but don’t count out the darker colour.

You might have the upper cabinets finished in white while the base cabinetry is a natural wood look.  An interesting kitchen cabinet design is to make the island a different colour than the perimeter cabinets. Since the island is more like a piece of furniture, it’s an easy breakaway piece that you can feel comfortable being bold.

Under Cabinet Lighting

LED lighting has had a particularly good run as homeowners change over from traditional incandescent bulbs. It provides good lighting for activities, comes in a variety of colours and the bulbs last for a really long time.

This has made it a popular option for under-cabinet lighting. Under cabinet LED lights come in different forms including pucks, strips, and bars. When fixed under the wall cabinetry, they help add light to the working area as well as improve the overall ambiance.

Kitchen Sinks and Tapware

Focused on functionality, today’s kitchens are being designed with large single bowl sinks or with multiple sinks.

Large single bowl sinks are popular mostly for their large deep sizes, that allows for more comfortable use, and style. These sinks are perfect for larger items such as cookie sheets, stockpots, and skillet handles.

We are also seeing a rise of unique and fun kitchen tap designs. Today, kitchen tapware come in all shapes, curves, and twists.

Flatpack vs Custom Kitchens

Small Kitchen Designs - Kitchen Designers

FLATPACK VS CUSTOM KITCHENS – Why choose CUSTOM DESIGNED KITCHENS

The two main reasons people may choose to go for a flat-pack kitchen or pre-made cabinets option, is because they think a custom option is not within their reach financially.

This is not necessarily true. One can still achieve a very affordable custom made kitchen giving you the result you were hoping to achieve within the available budget.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN FLAT PACK ISSUES?

Flatpack or pre-made kitchens often mean white, white and more white, but the design options today with custom designed kitchens are virtually endless.

When you choose flatpack or pre-made kitchens, you often miss out on the choice when it comes to customisation for options like cabinet facings, bench top sizes and materials.

You have to stick to standard cabinet sizing which causes voids and then requires fillers to be used to hide any unused space.

You are limited to the style of cabinets, products and materials set by the flat-pack company.

You often have to project manage and complete the installation of the cabinetry yourself, including organising all the trades.

Once the cabinets are in place, you still have to Install the bench-top. This is harder than it looks, because walls are rarely flat or square.

Install the sink and hook up the plumbing. Plumbing can only be done by a licensed plumber, so you’ll need some help with this.

Hook up the electricity and/or gas. Here again, you’ll need licensed trades to help you. By law, you can’t do electrical work or gas fitting without a license.

REASONS FOR CUSTOM DESIGNED CABINETRY IN THE KITCHEN:

Custom made kitchens allow you to utilise every nook and cranny, avoid wasted space, all while offering value for money, workmanship warranties for installation.

Custom designed kitchens are the best option to maximise space and practically.

Custom made kitchens can be designed to complement the look and feel of your house, by adding superior materials that flat pack options fall short of.

Working with design professionals, cabinet makers, licensed trades and specialist suppliers, offers you peace of mind with the provision of workmanship warranties for installation, and product warranties.

The installation costs can be cheaper with custom made cabinetry because you’re not paying trades people to modify pre made cabinets to have them fit your space.
